Molding your hand

So as promised I will be posting more often!  This time I am going to show you how I sculpted my hand appliances for my Kerrigan costume.  So the first thing we need is a copy of our (your) hand to sculpt on.  This allows having a prosthetic that fits your hand perfectly.  To do this we need a couple of things:
   1. Prosthetic grade alginate
   2. Some sort of container to put your hand in (like Tupperware)
   3. Plaster of Paris, Hydrostone, or HydroCal (preferred)
3a.  A metal whisk or some other mixing tool you wouldn't mind throwing away.
   4. Shellac or mold soap and warm water

Now I could explain this all day long but I figured I would show the video that helped me a ton in this, and many other, processes. They very clearly explain everything and have a good quality video so you see what is going on.  The video is done by Brick in the yard Mold Supply and their webstore http://brickintheyard.com/ is where I get all of my mold making supplies.

Surprise?

Well two things are certain, 1) I haven't posted anything in a long time!  and 2) I still love to cosplay WAY too much!

I LIVE! And I will be posting more things about my fun little project I am currently working on a lot more regularly.  I will even be posting tutorials as I go since what I am working on is not exactly a secret any more.  After not being able to go to Blizzcon 2011 it put me into over drive mode on working on my "newest" project:

INFESTED KERRIGAN

She's awesome, badass, and one hell'a-hard costume!  Just the way I like it!  I love a challenge and decided to go full throttle on this one!  Complete with latex, silicone, hopes, and tears.  The biggest difference between what I am doing and what my good friends over at tripleacosplay are doing is I will not be making my suit out of foam latex.  Even though this is the "industry standard" I do not have the means, funds, or space to make a 5 1/2 ft custom oven.  So I will be taking a different approach.  I will be posting progress and tutorials as much as I can as I go along.  Since I will not be putting a deadline on her I figured there is no real point to waiting until I am completely done with the suit seeing how it could be done as late as next year.  Needless to say, she will be my biggest costume yet!

A Sad, Sad Day

Well normally I would post progress of my priestess costume, except....I am scrapping the costume.  No not because of skill but because I will not be attending Blizzcon 2011.  I was talking to my husband earlier this week after the date had been announced, and he said it can't be in the plan book for this year.  Money being too tight due to our recent move will not allow us to go all the way to California for the convention.  "Well why not continue your priestess costume? No reason to scrap it? You can always go to a closer convention!" well the thing about all that is I am on a very strict plan, because next year will be my last year to cosplay...I have other responsibilities and will be far enough in school to be pursuing an internship.  Here and now in America it's becoming increasingly difficult to find a job.  You have to have "experience" in the field for them to hire you.  I always knew what I wanted my last costume to be so I will start that instead.  It sucks because I have already put so much time and effort into this costume I hate to shove it into the closet...but there's nothing else I can do.  I suppose it's a blessing in disguise, now I can put lots of love into my big finale! I'm sure I'll pick it up again later in life when things look a little more up.  But one thing is for sure, cosplay is not for the poor!
